  • Christopher D. Smith
    President & Chief Executive Officer  

    Mr. Smith has more than 20 years experience in the medical malpractice insurance industry beginning at Arthur Andersen, LLP where he served as a consultant to several large insurance companies, including MCIC, and later at EMCOL, Ltd. where he provided consulting services and also helped manage several large alternative risk insurance programs.  Mr. Smith assumed his current position as President & Chief Executive Officer of MCIC in 1995 and has subsequently led the company’s expansion and growth to become one of the nation’s largest and most successful risk retention groups.  He is a 1986 graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Finance.

  • Ken Craig
    Ken Craig
    ​Ken Craig joined MCIC Vermont in 2019 as its Chief Administrative Officer.  Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, Mr. Craig was employed as a Managing Director and CIO for America’s Risk, Treasury, Finance and CCAR at Deutsche Bank, where he was employed for over ten years.  Based in New York, with a three year assignment in London, he managed the implementation of technology and operations solutions to support business growth, improve controls, and ensure compliance with regulatory obligations.  Earlier in his career, Mr. Craig gained extensive experience at Bank of America, Credit Suisse, and JPMorgan. Through-out his career, Ken has proven to be adept at unlocking the potential of teams, moving barriers to collaboration, and effectively managing stakeholder relationships. 
    Ken received his Bachelors of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Business Administration from Manhattan College, and his M.B.A. in Management and International Business from New York University.

  • Dr. John Evanko
    Dr. John Evanko
    Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer  

    Dr. Evanko joined MCIC Vermont in 2017 as its Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. In this role he is responsible for leading MCIC Vermont’s Patient Safety and Loss Prevention clinical initiatives, and joins MCIC’s management team to oversee the company's strategic direction. Dr. Evanko has led multiple clinical transformation initiatives that align value, cost and outcomes within physician and hospital performance metrics within large academic medical institutions. As a physician executive, he is passionate about high quality healthcare delivery with a focus on patient safety and patient experience.

    Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, Dr. Evanko was employed at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center since 1995. Dr. Evanko is an accomplished physician executive who has served in multiple leadership roles while at NYP/Columbia University.  He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served as Division Director of Gynecology, Perioperative Director for NYP/CUMC and most recently as Associate Chief Medical Officer, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Columbia University Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer, VPMA at NYP/Lawrence Hospital.

    Dr. Evanko received his A.B. in Biology from Princeton University, attended New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, completed his internship and residency training at NYP/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and subsequently obtained an M.B.A. from Columbia University Business School.

    Vice President of Patient Safety and Loss Prevention  

    Ms. McMullan joined MCIC in 2013. Prior to coming to MCIC she was the Director of the Continuous Quality Improvement at Stony Brook University Hospital. During her time at Stony Brook Hospital she was also an adjunct faculty member for both the Harriman School of Management and Policy, and the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University. She possesses 25+ years of experience in quality improvement, human resource management and administration. Ms. McMullan obtained her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from C.W. Post at Long Island University. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality from the National Association for Healthcare Quality, and is a faculty member at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

  • Suzanne Blundi
    Vice President of Claims 

    Ms. Blundi joined MCIC Vermont in October 2017 as Vice President of Claims. Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, Ms. Blundi served as Deputy Counsel for Claims and Litigation at NYC Health and Hospitals, the largest public health care system in the nation. She has also served as a Partner at Wilson Elser, and Of Counsel to Barnett, Ehrenfeld, et al., in New York City, where she oversaw all professional liability claims for academic medical centers and defended numerous healthcare institutions and their providers. Ms. Blundi is a proven leader with legal expertise, in-depth knowledge of insurance management, litigation, and medical malpractice.
    Ms. Blundi received her BA from Queens College in Flushing, New York and attended Albany Law School of Union University in Albany, New York to complete her JD.  Ms. Blundi resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her husband and 3 children and will be based out of MCIC Vermont’s New York office.
