    President & Chief Executive Officer  

    Mr. Smith has more than 20 years experience in the medical malpractice insurance industry beginning at Arthur Andersen, LLP where he served as a consultant to several large insurance companies, including MCIC, and later at EMCOL, Ltd. where he provided consulting services and also helped manage several large alternative risk insurance programs.  Mr. Smith assumed his current position as President & Chief Executive Officer of MCIC in 1995 and has subsequently led the company’s expansion and growth to become one of the nation’s largest and most successful risk retention groups.  He is a 1986 graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Finance.

    Donna Cameron
    Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer

    Ms. Cameron joined MCIC Vermont in 2016 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer. Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, she was a managing partner in the firm Cameron & Roble, LLP, based in Boston where she provided legal consulting to various healthcare entities.  Prior to this role Ms. Cameron was the Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.  Ms. Cameron joined Lahey in 1992 and served in an executive legal leadership role until leaving in 2011.

    Ms. Cameron received a BA and graduated cum laude with distinction from Yale University. She earned her JD, at the University Of Virginia School Of Law with a concentration in Healthcare law. Ms. Cameron will relocate from the Boston area and she will be based out of MCIC Vermont’s New York office.

    Dr. John Evanko
    Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer  

    Dr. Evanko joined MCIC Vermont in 2017 as its Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. In this role he is responsible for leading MCIC Vermont’s Patient Safety and Loss Prevention clinical initiatives, and joins MCIC’s management team to oversee the company's strategic direction. Dr. Evanko has led multiple clinical transformation initiatives that align value, cost and outcomes within physician and hospital performance metrics within large academic medical institutions. As a physician executive, he is passionate about high quality healthcare delivery with a focus on patient safety and patient experience.

    Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, Dr. Evanko was employed at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center since 1995. Dr. Evanko is an accomplished physician executive who has served in multiple leadership roles while at NYP/Columbia University.  He is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served as Division Director of Gynecology, Perioperative Director for NYP/CUMC and most recently as Associate Chief Medical Officer, Vice President of Medical Affairs at Columbia University Medical Center and Chief Medical Officer, VPMA at NYP/Lawrence Hospital.

    Dr. Evanko received his A.B. in Biology from Princeton University, attended New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY, completed his internship and residency training at NYP/Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and subsequently obtained an M.B.A. from Columbia University Business School.

    Mr. Hakimian joined MCIC in 2015 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  Prior to joining MCIC he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Assurant Specialty Property, a leading provider of specialty insurance services.  Mr. Hakimian has over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, including leadership roles with Nationwide Insurance and JP Morgan Chase.  With advanced technical knowledge of financial services and a strategic mindset, he has been instrumental in leading many key business priorities such as merger and acquisition activity, operational excellence initiatives and advancement of management analytics.  A graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Mr. Hakimian is a CPA with an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago.

    Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer

    Ms. Viera is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Ms. Viera was most recently the Regional Senior Director for WellCare Health Plans, Inc. where she held human resources oversite for the West, Central and East Regions. Prior to WellCare, Ms. Viera was the Vice President of Human Resources for Assurant Specialty Property and Assurant Solutions.
     
    Ms. Viera received a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources at Trinity International University and a Master’s of Science in Human Resource Management from Florida International University, Chapman Graduate School of Business in Miami, Florida. Ms. Viera holds the Senior Professional Human Resource and SHRM-Senior Certified Professional designation. Ms. Viera currently sits on the Georgia Department of Economic Development Board, Workforce Division –Board Member, Georgia’s Governor Deal Appointment and the Georgia Department of Economic Development Board, Workforce Division – Youth Committee Board.

    Ms. McMullan joined MCIC in 2013. Prior to coming to MCIC she was the Director of the Continuous Quality Improvement at Stony Brook University Hospital. During her time at Stony Brook Hospital she was also an adjunct faculty member for both the Harriman School of Management and Policy, and the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University. She possesses 25+ years of experience in quality improvement, human resource management and administration. Ms. McMullan obtained her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from C.W. Post at Long Island University. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality from the National Association for Healthcare Quality, and is a faculty member at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

    ​Mr. Salinas has 30 years of experience in business management consulting, and in building and leading high performing teams specializing in business strategy, program management, organizational transformation, and operational improvement.  He joined MCIC Vermont in 2017 as Vice President of the Enterprise Program Management Office and is responsible for the operation of the EPMO and ensuring MCIC functions’ projects are executed effectively and efficiently for the organization. Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, Mr. Salinas served in various leadership capacities at McKesson Technology Solutions (MTS), Booz Allen Hamilton, and BearingPoint implementing enterprise-wide programs which focused on internal strategy, program management, process and operational improvement.

    Mr. Salinas earned his MBA in Business Strategy & Marketing from The College of William & Mary (Virginia), and his BBA in International Business from James Madison University (Virginia). In addition to his business experience, Andres served as an intelligence and staff officer in the US Coast Guard.
