    President & Chief Executive Officer  

    Mr. Smith has more than 20 years experience in the medical malpractice insurance industry beginning at Arthur Andersen, LLP where he served as a consultant to several large insurance companies, including MCIC, and later at EMCOL, Ltd. where he provided consulting services and also helped manage several large alternative risk insurance programs.  Mr. Smith assumed his current position as President & Chief Executive Officer of MCIC in 1995 and has subsequently led the company’s expansion and growth to become one of the nation’s largest and most successful risk retention groups.  He is a 1986 graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a degree in Business Administration and Finance.

    Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer

    Ms. Cameron joined MCIC Vermont in 2016 as Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer. Prior to joining MCIC Vermont, she was a managing partner in the firm Cameron & Roble, LLP, based in Boston where she provided legal consulting to various healthcare entities.  Prior to this role Ms. Cameron was the Chief Legal Officer and Executive Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer for Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.  Ms. Cameron joined Lahey in 1992 and served in an executive legal leadership role until leaving in 2011.

    Ms. Cameron received a BA and graduated cum laude with distinction from Yale University. She earned her JD, at the University Of Virginia School Of Law with a concentration in Healthcare law. Ms. Cameron will relocate from the Boston area and she will be based out of MCIC Vermont’s New York office.

    Senior Vice President of Finance & Chief Financial Officer  

    Mr. Hakimian joined MCIC in 2015 as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.  Prior to joining MCIC he was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Assurant Specialty Property, a leading provider of specialty insurance services.  Mr. Hakimian has over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, including leadership roles with Nationwide Insurance and JP Morgan Chase.  With advanced technical knowledge of financial services and a strategic mindset, he has been instrumental in leading many key business priorities such as merger and acquisition activity, operational excellence initiatives and advancement of management analytics.  A graduate from the University of Illinois at Chicago, Mr. Hakimian is a CPA with an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago.

    Senior Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer

    Ms. Viera is Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer. Ms. Viera was most recently the Regional Senior Director for WellCare Health Plans, Inc. where she held human resources oversite for the West, Central and East Regions. Prior to WellCare, Ms. Viera was the Vice President of Human Resources for Assurant Specialty Property and Assurant Solutions.
     
    Ms. Viera received a Bachelor of Science in Human Resources at Trinity International University and a Master’s of Science in Human Resource Management from Florida International University, Chapman Graduate School of Business in Miami, Florida. Ms. Viera holds the Senior Professional Human Resource and SHRM-Senior Certified Professional designation. Ms. Viera currently sits on the Georgia Department of Economic Development Board, Workforce Division –Board Member, Georgia’s Governor Deal Appointment and the Georgia Department of Economic Development Board, Workforce Division – Youth Committee Board.

    Mr. Coyle joined MCIC in 2007 as Vice President of Claims. Prior to joining MCIC he was the Vice President for AIG Domestic Claims Financial Lines, where he was responsible for national accounts, including large banks, broker-dealers and insurance companies.  Mr. Coyle has over 20 years of professional liability experience in Directors & Officers and Errors & Omissions claims, including physicians’ professional liability and insurance coverage disputes.  Mr. Coyle has also been associated with various New York law firms representing physicians, attorneys and accountants in all phases of civil litigation.  He obtained his Bachelor of Science from Fordham University and earned his Juris Doctorate from George Washington University Law School.

    Vice President of Applications Development

    Kevin Heineman has over 20 years of software engineering experience, building and leading commercial grade and SaaS software engineering organizations for both startups and fortune 500 companies. Mr. Heineman has worked for Atlanta startups in an executive capacity. These startups include MemberSuite, an Association Management System SaaS solution provider; Damballa, a security startup focused on advanced threat protection; and SPI Dynamics, a web application security startup which was acquired by Hewlett Packard.

    Mr. Heineman has served as the Board representative for M3AAWG (Messaging, Malware, Mobile Anti Abuse Working Group) while at Damballa. He was also the Technical Committee Co-Chairman of the standard organization OASIS AVDL Committee (Advanced Vulnerability Definition Language). Currently, Mr. Heineman is an Advisory Board member for YMCA’s Camp High Harbour.

    Mr. Heineman earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas and his Masters of Business Administration from Rice University.

    Mr. Heineman and his wife Melanie reside in Marietta, GA with their two sons, Drew and David.

    Ms. McMullan joined MCIC in 2013. Prior to coming to MCIC she was the Director of the Continuous Quality Improvement at Stony Brook University Hospital. During her time at Stony Brook Hospital she was also an adjunct faculty member for both the Harriman School of Management and Policy, and the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University. She possesses 25+ years of experience in quality improvement, human resource management and administration. Ms. McMullan obtained her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from C.W. Post at Long Island University. She is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality from the National Association for Healthcare Quality, and is a faculty member at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
